Biography

Born a year before the Soweto Uprisings, Velaphi Sylvester Mtimkulu (also known as Soulstar) is a Music Producer/ Musician/ Sound Engineer/ Songwriter/ Artist and a company Executive. He started his career at an early age, from Mbube-kwaito, Gospel, R’nB and fell in love with deep house/Nu Jazz and Soul. He produced albums for Sabelo (titled ‘Nguwe’) and Zodwa (titled ‘Mdumiseni’).

Soulstar has worked with Christos and Vinny Da Vinci on Dj’s Work 2, written and produced songs for Shota (Shana’s Lead singer) on his latest album ‘AfroRawmantic’.  He has also written and produced for Zano for his upcoming album.

Soulstar has worked with South Africa’s finest (Black Coffee); On Black Coffee’s album he has worked on two tracks, (1) the smash hit ‘You Rock My World’ and (2) a song which features Zakes Bantwini.
